For adequate sun protection, you need to protect yourself from two different ultraviolet rays: UVB rays, which cause you to burn and UVA rays which penetrate more deeply and cause aging, hyperpigmentation and cancer.
UVA = Aging
UVB = Burning
SPF ratings are relevant only to UVB rays. Ratings offer diminishing returns as SPF increases. An SPF 45 sunscreen is not much more effective than an SPF 30 sunscreen.
The primary ingredients that will protect you from UVA rays are: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and avobenzone.
Zinc oxide is a physical block and the most effective.
Titanium dioxide is also a physical block but less effective than zinc oxide.
Avobenzone is a chemical sunscreen. One drawback is it breaks down in sunight and needs a photostabilizer to be effective.
Wearing sunscreen is extremely important for everyone. Those who use benzoyl peroxide, vitamin A serums, mandelic, glyocolic or salicylic, it is even more important for you to protect your skin from sun damage.
